Last year Jon Robinson pulled off a trade for the ages cheap elite jerseys. He sent the #1 pick in the 2016 draft to the Los Angeles Rams for 5 picks (a first and two seconds in 2016 and a first and a third in 2017). Well we now have the tally for those picks:
Jack Conklin is already an All-Pro. That alone is probably enough to declare the trade a win for the Titans, but just wait until you see the rookie season that Corey Davis puts together!
In all seriousness, anytime you have a trade like this there are really only 2 ways for the team that did the trading down to not be the “winner:”
If the quarterback the team traded up to get becomes a franchise quarterback.*
If the team that trades down takes bad players with the picks.
Since it seems like neither of these scenarios are the case in this trade (though it is entirely to early to know what Goff will be), Jon Robinson is the winner!
*And this wouldn’t necessarily make the team that traded down a loser if they didn’t need a quarterback, which the Titans didn’t.
With the 2017 NFL Draft in the books, NFL teams can now turn their full attention to next year…like next next year. Failing to plan is planning to fail, and therefore we mock.
Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff has been good – not great – during the early stages of the 2017 offseason. But good just won’t cut it in Sean McVay’s high-powered offense.
And as a result, a somewhat early (but never too early) 2018 mock draft from Optimum Scouting’s Eric Galko has the Rams replacing Jared Goof (h/t Walter Football) in 2018. The Rams, who will clearly only win 2 or 3 games in 2017, are on the clock with the No. 4 overall pick:
4. Los Angeles Rams: Josh Rosen, QB, UCLA
Unless Jared Goff makes major strides in Year 2, the Rams can’t afford to sink with him at the helm. New coach Sean McVay has no ties to Goff, and if things don’t work out, McVay may prefer Josh Rosen, a far better fit for his offense.
Apologies in advance that it didn’t work out, Jared. It’s high time for you to ride off into the sunset. Here’s to hoping you’ve got that whole east/west, orbiting thing straightened out.
